Spectators can also track runners in real time using the predictive tracking system, which provides estimated locations based on timing points at 10k, halfway, 30k, and the finish .
At Sportsphere24 Updates, we recommend downloading the tracker before race day to follow friends and family as they tackle the 26.2 miles.
Road Closures and Travel Advice: Plan Ahead
The Manchester Marathon 2026 will require a significant number of road closures across the city, and Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) is strongly advising people not to drive on Sunday .
Key closures include:
Chester Road and Bridgewater Way will close in the early hours of marathon day
Parts of Oxford Road, from Hulme Street to Grafton Street, will close during the day
Several surrounding roads in Manchester city centre will also be affected
Public Transport
The Metrolink is the advised travel choice for the day. Trams will begin operating from 7:00 AM .
Recommended tram stops for runners:
Before 9:30 AM – Old Trafford or Trafford Bar (10-minute walk to the start)
After 9:30 AM – Wharfside or Exchange Quay
For those travelling by rail, use Manchester Piccadilly or Manchester Victoria. Both stations have Metrolink connections .
Parking
Official car parking is not available due to road closures. A limited number of spaces can be pre-booked at Manchester United FC for £20, with any remaining spaces costing £25 on the day .
Park and Ride locations are available with free parking for Metrolink ticket holders, including:
East Didsbury (296 spaces)
Ladywell (454 spaces) – recommended for Exchange Quay
Parkway (360 spaces) – recommended for Wharfside
A Huge Sporting Sunday: Marathon Meets Title Decider
The Manchester Marathon 2026 coincides with one of the biggest Premier League matches of the season. Manchester City will host Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium from 4:30 PM, with around 55,000 fans expected to attend .
This means public transport services will be exceptionally busy throughout the day. TfGM has warned of significant queues at Altrincham and Sale tram stops between 12 PM and 3 PM .
At Sportsphere24 Updates, we advise spectators and runners to factor in extra travel time and plan their journeys carefully.

The Medal: A Nod to Manchester's Heritage
This year's Manchester Marathon 2026 medal takes inspiration from the city's industrial heritage. The unique 3D embossed design features nods to the golden amber of honey, brick, and metalwork .
The reverse of the medal features the 'Manchester Bee'—a symbol of the city's resilience and community spirit—alongside a subtle background pattern referencing Manchester's iconic music scene and the famous Hacienda nightclub .
